Tragic, sudden, and just plain sad. Mr. Williams' death has affected a lot of people, his family most of all, but the fans as well. All of those who grew up watching 'Mrs. Doubtfire' over and over or those touched by his performance in 'Patch Adams' and all of the older fans who remember 'Happy Days', 'Mork and Mindy', 'Cadillac Man', 'The Birdcage', we feel for all of you. I, however, am on the opposite spectrum when it comes to Robin Williams fandom: I loved his dramatic roles!
Anyone ever seen 'What Dreams May Come'? Or how about 'The Final Cut'? Maybe, more recently, Christopher Nolan's remake of 'Insomnia'? These are some of Robin's best roles and performances and they are not often mentioned. Most got a taste in 'Patch' and even more of it in 'Good Will Hunting', but 'Dead Poets Society' and 'Good Morning Vietnam' were probably where we all first got a glimpse of his underlying skills. His talent in the drama department was striking, always memorable, and often tear-jerking. Maybe this particular natural talent came from his own inner pain, we may never know. What's important is what he has left behind: an extensive body of work and a great, lasting legacy.
